Watch out boys…Daddy is on alert. Yup that is right, Daddy has 2 daughters and any boy that wants to date those daughters better beware! Meet the Parents “lie detector” has been pulled out from the closet!
Hee hee, I do assume when the girls get to the dating age, Chad may really struggle with this whole idea. And I’m sure he’ll be the very over protective father…he already is. We are far from dating, but that doesn’t mean the girls don’t have eyes for those boys.
I arrived at daycare last week to see Kendall holding hands and dancing with another child…Nathan. I asked them what they were doing and both with HUGE smiles on their faces exclaimed “dancing.” I was then told by Erin, our daycare provider, that they had been dancing together for about an hour. Then as I got the girls ready to go, Nathan had to give Kendall a hug and kiss.
On the ride home my conversation with Kendall went as follows:
Mommy: “Kendall, do you like Nathan?”
Kendall: “Yup”
Mommy: “Did you have fun dancing with Nathan?”
Kendall: “Yeah”
Mommy: “Is Nathan your boyfriend?”
Kendall: “Yeah, Nathan my boyfriend”
Later that night when Chad got home I told him to ask Kendall what she did at daycare today. I wasn’t sure if she’d remember…they are still at that age where they forget what they did 10 minutes ago. She proudly told him…”I dance with Nathan.” “Nathan my boyfriend.”
So whether Nathan knows or doesn’t know, Kendall has claimed him as her boyfriend. Each time she mentions him as her boyfriend she gets this goofy looking smile on her face.
Is This A Sign???
For a while now the girls have been telling us when their diaper needs changed. This past weekend I saw a huge step in acknowledging it even more from both girls.
I noticed it first with Kendall. She came over to me and was saying “wipes.” I was a bit confused and asked her to show me what she wanted. So she grabbed my hand and pulled me into her bedroom. And then started opening her dressing drawer where we keep the diapers and wipes. I then asked her “do you need your diaper changed?” She looked me in the eye and said “yup, I go poopy.” I was pretty impressed as this is the first time she actually asked to be changed so firmly.
Sydney’s acknowledgment happened on Sunday. Sydney was in her room playing and I could hear her over the monitor in the kitchen. I knew she was in there by herself and I had to go see what she was doing…she’d been having a conversation in there all by herself. So I quietly walked over to her room and stood outside the door. She had her back to me, so I just stood there and watched.
She was having a conversation with one of her dolls. Most of the conversation was hard to understand, but what I did understand was:
Sydney:
“Oh no, did baby go poopy.” This was followed by her lifting the baby and sniffing her butt. Hmmm I wonder where she learned that one…hee hee.
I was laughing so hard I had to walk away. I found Chad in the kitchen and was telling him the story when Sydney came up to us all excited. She was pointing towards the hallway and kept saying “look” with a HUGE smile on her face. So we asked her to show us. She led us to the bathroom where the baby was now sitting on the potty chair. She then looked up at us and said “baby go poopy” with another HUGE smile on her face. Chad and I made sure to make a BIG deal of it and told Sydney what a great job she did by putting the baby on the potty.
These are good steps in the right direction. We do plan to master the potty this year…but will hold off until summer.

Night Time Struggles...
The girls were moved into twin beds right after the first of the year. They LOVED it and for the first few weeks, did great. We'd snuggle up on one of their beds and read a book, then I'd say "okay, it's time for bed." They get under the covers and all cozy for the night. That's it...it was perfect.
Well perfect didn't last for long...2 weeks.
After we tucked them in and gave kisses, Mommy and Daddy would leave the room. Not two minutes later we'd hear the door handle to the room, giggles, or banging. We'd go in to find, most times Sydney, out of her bed and in Kendalls. So we'd put them back to bed and leave again...only to be back in the room a few minutes later.
Some nights it would take two hours to get them to sleep, others only a half hour. I just kept telling myself, keep at it they will learn. We've tried many things. Our latest...Mommy and Daddy take turns every other night sitting in the room on the floor until they are asleep. So far this has been working. We usually spend 15-30 minutes in there...not talking or looking at them. I think they realize they better not get out of bed with us in there. I know eventually we won't have to do this...I just hope eventually is soon!

Big Girl Beds
With the long weekend a head of us we decided to move the girls from their cribs to beds. We were fortunate enough to get 2 twin beds from Chad's aunt Barb. This was a HUGE saver for us. So we tore the cribs down...which brought back many memories.
The girls were in the room as we took the beds a part and set up their twin beds. The excitement they had with their new beds was so fun. Of course it was a bit more of a struggle for Mom and Dad. Putting the beds together went just fine...putting the bedrails together took FOREVER!!!
Once the beds were up, the girls climbed up and claimed their bed. Of course they had to jump a bit and of course they had to check out each others beds.
Later that night, I snuggled in Sydney's bed with both girls to read a book. Once the book was done I announced it was bed time. Kendall looked at me with BIG eyes and said, my bed. She jumped off the bed, ran to hers and climbed up. She snuggled in under the covers and said good night. Sydney was a bit more unsure. Now the true test, will they stay put. They did get up once and had to be put back to bed. But that was all.
We all slept good that night. Knowing I had put up a baby gate at their door, helped a bit. The next day at nap time, we only had to go in once as well. I think they got the idea. I know there will be nights, but so far so good!

Christmas 2009
Christmas 2009 was so FUN!!! The girls were so in to unwrapping gifts this year and the smiles they had painted on their faces were indescribable.
December was an extremely busy month for us. It started with their birthday on the 12th and continued with five Christmas gatherings. By the end of it all we were exhausted, but also truly blessed.
The girls received LOTS of great gifts, but I'd have to say their favorite was their vacuums. They have been used every day since Christmas and the batteries are almost dead in both. Each night after dinner I usually pull out our vacuum and do a quick clean up under the table...the girls are right there behind me with their vacuum. If only they actually worked like a real vacuum! I'm sure you all know how proud I am that they love to clean...gotta love a clean house!!!
2009 was a GREAT year for the Dobbelaere household. We have had many new adventures and many new first's with the girls. I am forunate to say that we have been healthy and blessed.For 2010, I hope we have happiness, love and our health. From our family to yours...many 2010 be everything you wish!

Wow...what a day!On December 12, 2007, Kendall Ann and Sydney Lanette decided it was time to enter the world. That day has & will be sketched in my memory forever. Such a HUGE range of emotions from excitement to being scared.
Kendall broke her water at 6am and both girls were born by 8am. Before I could even comprehand, I was a Mommy. A Mommy...CRAZY!
They were early, 7 weeks to be exact, and tiny
(Kendall 3lbs 9oz, Sydney 4lbs, 3oz)...
but healthy and just perfect.
Over the last 2 years I have loved being a Mommy. To see how small my little peanuts were to where they are today, well it just amazes me. Every day I thank God for these 2 precious gifts.
We are truly blessed to have them
and we are truly blessed that they are healthy.
I'm excited to see what the next year will bring.
