What's That???

The famous line of Kendall “Oh, what’s that” came to Chad’s mouth last night. It was a typically evening in the Dobbelaere house, nothing unusual. The girls were in the tub and had just been cleaned and were playing. I was sitting there keeping an eye on them and talking to Chad…things were good. When all of a sudden Chad says, “What’s that” and points at the tub. I look and see what he does…yup we’ve got floaters! Both of us look at each other, like what the heck. Then Chad proceeds to say…”What do we do.” At this point I’m laughing so hard, at the fact that the girls did this (people kept asking if they had done it yet) and at Chad as he was talking as though it was the end of the world.

The girls didn’t seem bothered by it at all, matter of fact they didn’t even seem to notice that something was floating along with their toys. I think it bothered Mom and Dad much more. I ended up taking the girls out of the tub, so we could drain it and put some clean water in to give them a quick rinse off.

Oh by the way, we believe the guilty party may be Sydney. We do not have any hard proof on that as we didn’t see it. But Kendall had just filled her pants before their bath.

Our Trip To Missouri

With a long weekend for me, my office was closed on President’s Day, we decided to head down to Missouri to see my brother and his family. This was our goal…

Leave Saturday morning around 630am
Get to Missouri around 130pm
Hang out with my brother’s family for the weekend at the hotel
Leave Monday morning and head back home

Well most of this happened, except the trip down didn’t go as well as planned. All week I had a sore throat and even decided to head to the Minute Clinic to make sure I didn’t have strep…nope. Saturday morning, I was having a hard time even drinking water. But, you know me, let’s just get on with the day and see where it goes. About half way down to Missouri, I decided we better stop at an urgent care and just make sure I don’t have strep now. I ended up not having strep, but they found that I had a bacterial infection. At least now I could be put on antibiotics to clear it up. So after spending an hour and a half at urgent care, and another half hour at the pharmacy, we were back on the road. Due to this little stop, we didn’t get into Liberty until 4pm.

The rest of the weekend was a lot of fun. I cannot believe how big my brother’s twins have gotten. They were a bit shy of us at first, but slowly came around to giving us hugs and kisses (well not me, with the infection). It’s also fun to see them sign a few things, in order to communicate with my brother. My girls had a great time with them and were not afraid to put them in their place. At one point Brandon was trying to close a cabinet door on Kendall and she just pushed back. It was funny to see the cousins interact with one another.

The hotel was prefect for this visit. It had an almost full kitchen and a separate bedroom, which came in nice at night so the girls could go to bed and we could stay up. It had a great pool that both sets of twins enjoyed. Sydney was okay with the water, as long as you held her close to you. Kendall was a bit more adventurous, willing to sit on the top step and splash away. My brother’s twins were the same…Emily was just fine with being taken out to the middle with her daddy, but Brandon would go no further than that top step.

The girls did amazing in the car. I was a little nervous on how’d they do. But they didn’t squawk at all. What would we do with out portable DVD…they did watch a lot of video’s. Overall, we had a great time seeing them. We don’t get the opportunity to see them much, so these times are very special. And I love having the cousins, “twins”, together!!!

Our First Words

Each parent waits for their child to say those first few words. Kendall has said a few words for some time now. Those words include; mommy, daddy, puppy, bye bye, hi, whoa, what’s that and thank you. And just today on the way to daycare, she said her own name…Kendall.

Sydney on the other hand has only said a couple words; hi, daddy and oh yeah. Sydney does more babbling.

It’s so fun watching them learn new things or speak new words. I do have a couple favorites. When Kendall hands you a toy she says thank you. I think this is because she’d give us a toy and we’d say thank you. We'll have to make sure to set her straight on this! I’ll ask Sydney a question like, do you want to eat and she’ll say, oh yeah. It’s so cute!!!

Here We Go Again...

The week that started off not so well, seemed to get better, then worse again. On Firday, Chad had just dropped the girls off at daycare, when his phone rang on his way in to work. It was daycare, her son had just woke up and was sick with the flu, we needed to pick up the girls. I’m starting to feel bad, first we spread pink eye and now we spread the flu…we are “that” family. So Chad turns around to get the girls. Luckily for us Grandma Shelley offers to watch the girls that afternoon so Chad can go in.

Later that day when I got home we decided to head to TGI Fridays for dinner…to thank my mom for watching the girls. As we are waiting to be seated, Sydney throws up. But we are not sure if she was sick or if she had stuck her fingers down her throat. She has been doing this lately and when she got sick, her fingers were in her mouth. Who knows…but we decide to leave. Mark this as, first episode of girl(s) getting sick in public. I’m sure it won’t be the last!

Later that night, at about mid-night Sydney is crying out a lot so I just decide to bring her to bed with us. I notice she is burning up and decide to take her temp…104.9. Chad strips her down to her under shirt while I call the nurse line. Of course I’m on hold forever, so I tell Chad to take her temp again since we removed some clothing. It’s now at 104.4. Finally a voice, they will put a page in for the nurse in my area to call me….WHAT I have to wait even longer. 45 minutes later, the nurse calls. She says, we usually tell parents to bring their kids in when the temp is 105 or higher…okay we were at 104.9. She tells me to give her Motrin, as the Tylenol we’ve been giving doesn’t seem to be working and to call in the morning to bring her in. We, of course, do not have Motrin at home. So, it’s 230am, Chad heads to Cub…which was good as the Motrin brings her temp down to 102.8. It pretty much stayed at 102.8 all weekend, until Sunday afternoon when it finally dropped to 99. We did end up bringing her in on Saturday morning where they really couldn’t decide what was wrong with her. Our instructions as we left: bring her in if she still has a temp on Tuesday.

We are all back to daycare and work today. Sydney is doing MUCH better. She was actually doing pretty well yesterday afternoon. A little tired, but totally understandable.

Okay so this all happened in January…pink eye (twice), flu, and now the high temp. Now that it is February, can we please be done?!?!?!

A Night To NOT Repeat

It was a typical Monday evening. Got off work at 330pm, rode the bus home, picked the girls up from daycare, then got on the floor and played with them a bit. But then that’s when it took a turn for the worst…totally not kidding!!! The girls and I had been having a great time, when all of a sudden Sydney throws up. Okay, so here I am by myself with 2 one year olds. Sydney is crying, Kendall is trying to see what just happened. First things first, get Kendall out of the way. The best way to do that is to put in a video. Then I proceed to clean up Sydney, decide to give her some crackers and plain bread. She eats it no problem, but then 15 minutes later, it doesn’t stay down. As the night proceeds forward, we get Kendall down around 7pm so we can take care of Sydney.

It’s now 8pm, we hear Kendall coughing and making weird noises. Chad rushes in and she is now throwing up. It was everywhere, poor kid I had to give her a bath right away and Chad had to scrub the crib. By this time Sydney is doing better, so we lay her in the crib to take care of Kendall.

It’s now 930pm, Chad goes rushing into the bathroom. I’m thinking, not him too! But yup, him too. I’m almost in tears; here I am with my entire family sick. It’s getting late, so I decide to have Kendall sleep with us, that way I will wake up if she gets sick. Which happened all night long.

It’s now 11pm, guess who goes rushing into the bathroom now…you guess it ME!!! Seriously, this is really getting old. It’s a chain reaction that can stop now, I really mean it.

A good Monday evening, turns out to be a terrible Monday night. By early Tuesday morning, we were pretty much done getting sick…but still not feeling great. We were all home Tuesday, just taking it easy and trying to mend. Oh and sleep, didn’t get much of that Monday night, between caring for Kendall, checking in on Sydney and dealing with my own illness.

It’s one thing to be sick or to have a child who is sick or to have 1 parent and a child who is sick…but when both parents are sick with 2 sick kids, it’s no fun!

Let’s hope we NEVER repeat this!

What’s Been Going’ On?

We had some fun with pink eye these last couple weeks. Sydney got it one week, Kendall showed some symptoms of it, but not bad. We thought we were out of the clear, when Kendall got it big time. So Kendall, Sydney and I stayed home last Tuesday…I gave drops to both girls so it wouldn’t spread. Actually it ended up being a nice day at home. Besides having pink eye, the girls were in great moods and the Presidential inauguration was on TV. Hopefully we are pass pink eye for a while now!!!

The girls made their first trip to the Zoo last Friday with daycare. Yup, our daycare provider and her husband loaded up…2 - 1 year olds, 3 – 2-3 year olds, a 4 year old and 2 other kids (who didn’t have school). They had to take 2 vehicles, but said all the kids loved it. It was her sons, Trey, 2nd birthday, so she wanted to do something fun. She said the girls just sat back in the stroller and watched with big eyes.

I just recently bought the girls their winter coats and snow pants for next year. I was told by a couple people to get 2T. They said they will be big next year, but wearable…this way they can hopefully get 2 years out of it. Here is a picture of Sydney in her winter gear. Let’s hope she grows a lot in the next 10 months…

Kendall loves, and I mean loves, the TV. In the evenings when the girls and I get home, I will pop in a 20 – 30 minutes video to distract them…so I can change and get dinner going. Kendall always heads to her couch and becomes a couch potato.

And just this past weekend, we celebrated our last Christmas for 2008. May Dad and Elaine were in town and we had the entire family over. It was a good time...good food, good gifts and good company. The night even brought on a little war. Yup that's right, we have this blow up hippo that is filled with plastic balls for the girls to play in. Well, these plastic balls ended up being thrown at each other (adults versus kids) in a war!!! It was a blast...don't worry my girls were sound asleep!

All Healthy In 2009...Yeah Right!!!

So…after 2007 and 2008, I decided to have a little chat with the girls about their health and informed them that in 2009 they were to remain healthy little girls. Well, Sydney decided to go against those fine words that I expressed to her. Yup that’s right, only 10 days into the New Year and guess what…she gets pink eye!!!

Is this a sign of what 2009 is going to bring us? Is Sydney already going against what mom and dad have to say? It's only 2 weeks into the year, 11 1/2 months to go...I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Is It Summer Yet???

For the girl’s birthday, Grandma Shelley bought them a patio set that can be used up at the camper. She had to order the set, so we just got it the other night. I decided to open it and set it up, just to make sure nothing was wrong with it. I put the girls up to it and they loved it. They are a bit small for it now, but I’m sure in no time they will grow into it!!!

Saying Goodbye To A Good Pal

I'm sorry to share that my mom's dog Sweetpea has left us. She has been not doing so well the last couple months...thinking she has some illnesses that would pass. The vets indicated she was healthy and had many years left on her. Well, after some time they found a tumor on her throat.

Sweetpea was 12 1/2 years old. She was a great dog from day one. Lots of energy and love. She loved to get on the floor and wrestle with Chad, cuddle with me and most of all...she handled the girls pretty well. She was a great companion for my mom, giving her a smile each day when she came home from work.

Even though it will be hard to not have her in our life any longer, she will be remembered always. We will miss you Sweetpea!!!

Getting Around Is Getting Easier

A few blogs ago I mentioned Sydney has been taking steps. Well, she is becoming a natural walker. She is walking every where. I'll be in a different room, turn around and here you see Sydney walking into that room. She is still a bit shaking, but she gets around.

About 2 weeks after Sydney started walking, Kendall decided it was her time. She has only taken a couple steps but I'm sure she will be all over the place as well.
